“Irish history is the heartbeat of a nation that refused to be silenced.” - Laurence V. McKevitt
Biography
Laurence V. McKevitt is a Dublin-based writer and researcher specialising in 20th-century Irish history and affairs. His expertise spans the revolutionary period (1913–1923) through to the Troubles in Northern Ireland (1969–1998).
A veteran of the Irish Defence Forces, Laurence served for 12 years and completed four overseas tours of duty in Lebanon, Liberia (twice), and Chad. This firsthand experience informed his 2020 two-part series in An Cosantóir (the official magazine of the Irish Defence Forces), which detailed the UN-led deployment to Liberia in 2003/04.
Following the passing of his father, Daniel (Danny), in early 2024, Laurence turned his research lens toward his own paternal lineage. By tracing four generations of family history, he successfully transformed long-standing family myths into verified historical narratives. This work culminated in the article "A Mullingar Man Remembers His WWI Ancestors," published by the Westmeath Topic in November 2024, with his research further credited by the Westmeath Examiner in October 2025.
Laurence is currently working on two upcoming projects slated for publication in 2026 and 2027.
